Taverna Kreta Grill

I have walked by this place on numerous occasions and, it's usually pretty busy in the evenings. Finally we decided to give this place a try. It's open for lunch most days and less busy during the day.

The menu is fairly varied with a big selection of cold and hot starters, fish, gyros and other greek specialities. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. They have a selection of drinks including greek beer and, some greek wine.

We shared a cold Mezze plate and it had a nice selection of dips, calamari salad and beans. All of these tasted quite nice and I really liked it. For main I had grilled calamari which was delicious although, it had a bit too much olive oil used. The flavour was great and I enjoyed the tender calamari. I also tasted the octopus and it was also amazingly tender.

I would happily come back here again and try a few more dishes. Food is good and reasonably priced and the service is very friendly.

This place is excellent. Fresh ingredients, friendly service, good portion sizes, and decent prices. Definitely order some cold appetizers. We ordered the tzatziki and melitzanosalata. We wanted to order the combo platter people rave about but couldn't translate the menu. But I am VERY happy with our selections because they were awesome! For our entrees, we ordered the baby calamari and the octopus. SO GOOD! Seriously the best I've ever had! The pita was also excellent.

At the end of our meal, they brought out two shots of something... (we didn't drink it, but this is tradition in Germany, I believe). The host was even nice enough to call us a cab after we ate.

Things to know: This place fills up fast so make sure you show up early! The staff doesn't speak much English, so try to know some menu-basics. They only take cash so be prepared. People tip in Germany!

Don't be deterred - this place is WORTH IT. I hope I have time to go back before I leave Munich!

If you're nice to the staff and waiters they will give you a shot of greek weird liquor. I was particularly nice and they gave me 2 shots.

The only downside to this fine establishment was their lack of acceptance of credit cards. I was worried the entire meal that I didn't have the cash on hand to pay for my culinary transgressions. Fortunately, i had enough (I did have to walk home penniless afterwards).

Anyway... they were out of octapus while I was there but the artichokes were amazing and the calimari was the best I ever had. The waiter suggested an appetizer plate that combined various appetizers. That was a good choice that put them over the top for my 5 star rating.

Two different experiences and this place did not disappoint. Both times they were very accommodating and extremely nice. One time, we strolled up without a reservation, and they were able to comfortably seat all 5 of us. The most recent time, we were 20 minutes late to our reservation (got lost!) and they didn't bat an eye. That alone makes me want to come back again and again. Great service isn't easy to find.

Now- the food. As a Greek girl, I enjoy my fair share of all things Greek. Cretan food is especially fun because of the seafood influence. They know what they're doing here. Between both visits, I've ordered/tried the saganaki, Dorado fish, the grill plate (keftede meatball, gyro meat, and chicken souvlaki meat, with tzatziki and a salad), the grilled octopus and the calamari- ALL AMAZING! The wine selection is pretty good, too. They can do no wrong!

Whenever I'm in Munich, this place is a priority. They are so, so nice. It feels like family. If you need a break from the heavy German fare, treat yourself with a wonderful experience at Kreta!

Stumbled on this place while walking in the Schwabing neighborhood, and so glad I did! Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and great food! Really enjoyed the saganaki and gyro plate with salad. Very tasty and fresh all around. Highly recommend.

Spot on for food! Yum! Had halumi, artichokes and Branzino. Delicious. Great outdoor seating and can only imagine how packed it must be inside when weather is not great. Service was attentive and helpful. Will be returning!

This was such a great little restaurant. Reservations recommended, cash only. Notice, they don't have an English Menu but the waiter spoke english and he helped us order. Overall, they were very accommodating. I asked for Octopus as a starter portion, and they were accommodating. It was good, but a little over cooked. I ordered the grilled Tsipoura (sea bream) and it was perfectly cooked and so fresh! Probably the best thing i have was the yogurt with walnut and honey. The yogurt was unbelievably smooth and creamy, with just the right amount of honey and nuts, cinnamon and powdered sugar. The warm tsipouro with honey was just a great memory of Crete! The waiter was just super nice, very warm, and just the right amount of attentive. The only reason I give it a 4 instead of 5 is that haloumi cheese and the octopus was a tad overcooked. However, i am being super picky, the people with me had no complaints, and I would go back.

We are staying around the corner and decided to stop there on the recommendations of local friends. The first night was impossible because it was so busy until late at night. We came back for lunch today and OMG it was some of the best Greek food I have ever eaten and we always eat Greek when we find it. We had the mixed grill plate with a salad and a cold starter plate of various dishes. Just amazing flavored and done to perfection. I liked it so much I brought home the same. The warm garlic pita bread was out of this world. If in Munich on a lovely day make reservations because this place stays busy. We ate inside to avoid the smokers on the outside tables.
